The Yankees-Phillies divide in New Jersey

I updated the map slightly after spending some quality time in Ocean County over the weekend.

I would move the leaning Yankees line up to the border of Toms River and Brick Township and Brick Town and Lakewood to the west. There are quite a few Philadelphia fans in Toms River although it greatly favors NY teams but receives all Philly and NY locals and all RSN's from NY and Philly.

Having grown up in southern Monmouth and northern Ocean the area of overlap is huge. Really from Princeton over to Belmar on the north end and from Burlington City over to LBI on the southern end. In Monmouth County everyone south of Route 33 gets Philly stations. Sure, if you're in Howell most people will be pulling for the NY teams but finding Philly supporters isn't an anomaly.

There is a USA Today front page article about the NJ division in regards to the Series that also touches on some other NJ dividing lines. I think it's so lame that they didn't contact you for quotes in the article.

Anyway, here it is:

I teach in Stafford but live in Lacey. Judging by the students, I'd say Stafford is definitely leaning Phillies. I dressed as Joe Girardi for Halloween and was nearly booed out of school!

Lacey, on the otherhand, is leaning Yankees. Yankees fans used to dominate, but Phillies fans began to rear their heads once the club started to win again. Specifically, the Forked River section has many Phillies-decorated homes. The fanbase I'd say is 40% NYY, 35% PHI, 25% NYM.

As a Yankee fan that lives in Phillies country, it was interest how it split people. I run a wedding and portrait photography company, and it really divided right down the middle of my customers. I tried to be respectful as I run a business but WOO HOO! Yankees won!

love the phils! working as a cheap wedding photographer in doylestown, about 50 minutes outside of philly keeps me from driving to the games. My schedule is pretty hectic but I always make time for the phils. I don't think PA is like that for any teams. I am very surprised NJ is like that to be honest since I always thought most of people in jersey loved the yankees. Sorry to rant, anyways love the blog!
